Clinical Consultation for Child, Adolescent, & Play Therapists
Helping child therapists slow down, trust what they're seeing, and respond with confidence.
Whether you're a pre-licensed therapist, new to working with children, or beginning your journey in play therapy, consultation can be a place to build confidence—not by memorizing more interventions, but by deepening your understanding of the child in front of you.
My goal isn't to give you a script for every situation. It's to help you slow down, notice what's happening beneath the behavior, and trust your clinical intuition. Together, we'll think through your cases, strengthen your conceptualization skills, and help you feel more grounded in the therapy room so you can better support both children and their families.
-
My consultation style is collaborative, curious, and grounded in the principles of Synergetic Play Therapy. Rather than focusing solely on techniques or interventions, we'll explore what's happening within the child, the therapeutic relationship, and your own nervous system.
Together, we'll slow down and ask questions like:
What is this child's behavior communicating?
What themes are emerging through their play?
What is their nervous system trying to protect them from?
What am I noticing in myself as their therapist?
How can I use that information to guide my next step?
Which types of clients am I attracting currently, and how can I use that information to grow?
As your confidence grows, you'll spend less time wondering, "What intervention should I use?" and more time trusting your ability to understand what's unfolding in the room.
I also place a strong emphasis on helping therapists communicate their work to parents. We'll explore how to translate what you're noticing in session into meaningful conversations that help families better understand their child and feel more supported throughout the therapeutic process.
Just like in my therapeutic work, I bring my authentic, messy self into the consultation space, and I work to create a space where you feel comfortable showing up authentically as well.
-
I provide consultation around:
Synergetic Play Therapy principles
Child-centered play therapy and therapist use of self
Case conceptualization through a nervous system lens
Anxiety, perfectionism, and emotional regulation
Neurodivergent-affirming therapy (ADHD, autism, and twice-exceptional children)
Trauma and attachment
Suicidality and self-harm in children and adolescents
Parent consultation and caregiver collaboration
Understanding play themes and symbolic play
Building confidence as a child therapist
Developing your own clinical style
-
You may benefit from consultation if you:
Are looking for an authentic and casual space (that incorporates humor and the woo-woo at times) to discuss the most difficult parts of being a therapist
Are a pre-licensed therapist or newer to working with children and adolescents
Are learning Synergetic Play Therapy or integrating a nervous system-informed approach into your work
Often leave sessions wondering, "Did I miss something?" or "What should I have done differently?"
Feel confident with theory but want more confidence in the therapy room
Want to strengthen your ability to conceptualize cases rather than relying on techniques alone
Want to feel more comfortable talking with parents about what you're seeing in therapy
Value curiosity, collaboration, and authentic therapeutic relationships
-
Over time, therapists often notice:
Greater confidence and trust in their clinical judgment
Stronger case conceptualization skills
Increased ability to attune to children and respond authentically in the moment
A deeper understanding of play themes, nervous system patterns, and behavior
More confidence in supporting parents and explaining the therapeutic process
Less pressure to have the “perfect” intervention and greater comfort staying present with uncertainty
A renewed sense of curiosity, connection, and enjoyment in their work
